WisDOT records 50 road fatalities in May

An article of TMJ 4 on June 3 revealed that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) recorded 50 traffic fatalities in the month of May, despite constant road improvements in the state.

WisDOT official David Pabst did not confirm if the recent speed limit increase on Wisconsin highways was a factor in deadly accidents. Pabst, however, did suggest that motorists who travel too slowly while in the left lane may be likely to cause crashes. Driving at a slow speed while in the left lane is considered reckless driving in other states, reports also mentioned. Michigan authorities, in a separate report, confirmed Pabst’s claim, saying accidents are likely to happen if drivers on the left side of the road that are traveling fast try to move around slower vehicles that are in the fast lane. In the 217 road fatalities recorded in Wisconsin from January to May, intoxicated driving, speeding, and distracted driving were huge factors in the fatalities.
