Racine couple killed in pedestrian accident

A couple who had just finished attending a church mass recently were killed when they were struck by a vehicle in Caledonia, the Chicago Tribune reported on January 25.

Police identified the fatalities as Vernetta Lang and Oscar Lang, both 83 years of age. The couple reportedly was walking outside of St. Louis Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. after attending a church service when an oncoming SUV hit them. The couple was thrown several meters away, and sadly, they both succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Reverend Mark Danczyk, who was devastated by the incident, stated that he heard a loud sound when the pedestrian accident occurred, and other church goers witnessed the accident. Caledonia authorities are investigating the 32-year-old female driver involved in the collision. Two children were in her vehicle at the time, although none of the three were injured. Authorities from Racine and the Wisconsin State Patrol will also investigate the accident.
