Drunk driver gets 7 years in fatal high-speed crash

A judge in Portage County Circuit sentenced a drunk driver to seven years in jail for his responsibility in the incident that killed two female passengers and injured one man, a Stevens Point Journal article stated on May 20.

In the sentencing, Judge Thomas Eagon said 23-year-old Timothy Saavedra will also be subjected to a five-year extended supervision after his jail time is completed. Saavedra was driving a pickup truck at an excessive speed while intoxicated when the one-vehicle accident occurred. Two of the passengers died at the scene of the accident, while another was flown to the hospital to treat serious injuries.
