Toyota recalls millions of older vehicle models worldwide

Automaker giant Toyota voluntarily recalled 6.39 million older vehicle models on April 9 to address five different defects, some of which could possibly endanger the lives of a vehicle’s occupants during crashes, an article published by the Washington Post stated.

The recalls affect older models of the Toyota Corolla, Matrix, Highlander, Tacoma, RAV4, and Yaris. Reports state that more than 1 million of the vehicles affected are in the U.S.

Toyota has said they will fix 3.5 million vehicles with spiral cables that can disable airbags if the cable is damaged by the steering wheel. Toyota will also replace springs in seat rails and repair steering column brackets in some of the affected vehicles. Other issues that will be addressed by Toyota affect vehicles in Asia.

Toyota stated that injuries involving the affected vehicles were not reported before the recall.
