Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee under NHTSA investigation

The NHTSA has been investigating possible causes for ceiling fires in Jeep Grand Cherokees since August of 2013. They recently added the Dodge Durango to the investigation.

According to reports, investigators have decided to include the Durango to the investigation due to the fact that the ceiling is built of the same material used for Grand Cherokee ceilings. So far 52 incidences of ceiling fires and 3 injuries have been reported.

Investigators suspect that the fires are being caused by electrical short circuiting. The investigation affects over 593,000 vehicles.
