Toyota vehicles with airbag issue recalled

Japanese automaker Toyota is voluntarily recalling 803,000 vehicles in the U.S. and thousands more in other countries due to a potential airbag malfunction caused by a leaking A/C condenser, an October 17 report from the company stated.

According to reports, the water from the leaking condenser in the 2012-2013 models of the Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybride, and the Venza SUVs may cause the airbag system of the recalled vehicles to malfunction. Toyota explained that a short circuit may occur, causing the airbag to either deploy unnecessarily or become disabled.

Reports of airbags in the affected vehicles unintentionally launching and few minor injuries were received by Toyota. The leaking condenser will be fixed by dealers by sealing and covering it, protecting the airbag control unit.
