Automaker recalls 1,658 vehicles due to defect

The new versions of the Chevrolet Sonic cars are being voluntarily recalled by automaker giant General Motors after a potential defect was discovered that may cause fires, an October 7 report from Reuters stated.

The recall affects 1,658 2013-2014 models of small Sonic cars that may have substandard welds on the strap bracket that attaches to the fuel tank. General Motors explained that the fuel tank in the cars may detach, causing it to possibly be pierced and catch on fire.

Fortunately, there have been no incidents or injuries involving the recalled vehicles.

To address the issue, dealers will inspect and repair the strap brackets that hold the fuel tank of the recalled vehicles for no cost.
