Police officer injured in wrong-way collision

A police officer with the Milwaukee Police Department was seriously injured in a car accident that occurred Wednesday on Interstate 94.

According to police officials, the accident occurred when a 23-year-old driver, who was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway, collided with the officer as he was on his way home from work.

Both drivers were trapped in their cars as a result of the collision. Once freed, they were transported to the hospital and said to be in critical condition at this time. The 23-year-old driver was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving, and driving on the wrong side of the road.
