WSP increased OWI patrol after Super Bowl

The Wisconsin State Patrol increased the number of police on the roadway on Sunday in order to prepare for an increased number of impaired drivers as a result of the Super Bowl.

Across the state, the number of drunk drivers on Super Bowl Sundays usually increase by 30 to 40 percent.

“We go somewhere in the 70s to somewhere around 112 so we definitely see a big increase Super Bowl Sunday when we look at the Sunday before and Sunday after. It’s a big spike on Super Bowl Sunday night in terms of OWI’S,” Mike Panosh, with the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

Police were hopeful that the increased patrols would deter drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel.
