Kia recalls Spectra compact cars for defect

Last month, Kia Motors Corp. issued a recall of their Spectra compact cars in 20 states (including Wisconsin) and Washington D.C.  The recall includes approximately 58,000 Kia Spectra models from 2004 to 2007.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles have straps that hold their gas tanks in place.  If exposed to road salt used to help ice and snow melt, the straps can rust.  If this happens, the gas tanks could fall out of place to the ground and possibly cause a gas leak and fire.  The recall is focused on cars in cold weather states where road salt is more likely to be used.
