Senate approves bill to lower minimum insurance coverage

The Wisconsin Senate recently approved a bill to lower the minimum amount of insurance coverage drivers in the state are required to purchase.  The bill passed with a 25-7 vote drawing along party lines, mostly with Republican support.

Supporters of the bill believe that lowering minimum covers lowers insurance costs for all drivers in the state and gives drivers more options concerning their auto insurance coverage.  In addition, the bill will make coverage for underinsured drivers optional.

If the governor signs the bill, it will go into effect six months after.
