Bill could change Wisconsin car insurance regulations

Last week, Republican legislators introduced a bill to repeal several changes made to car insurance in Wisconsin under a majority Democrat Congress in 2009.  Changes made in 2009 included requiring all drivers in the state of Wisconsin to have minimum liability auto insurance coverage.

The new bill would still require drivers to purchase car insurance.  However,  it would lower the cost of coverage minimums to their previous prices before the changes in 2009.  The changes in 2009 were made because legislators felt that the prices were outdated after not having been updated to reflect inflation since 1980.  Proponents of the bill say lower car insurance costs will make car insurance more available and ultimately make roads safer.
