Nissan recalling millions of vehicles with airbag and seat belt issues

Nissan North America recently issued a recall on 3.2 million vehicles of various models due to problems with the airbag and front passenger seat belt.

Nissan says the faulty sensors may fail to detect whether a passenger in the front seat is an adult or a child or whether there is a person in the seat at all. The problem can cause serious injuries to front seat passengers if the sensor erroneously disables the airbag. Nissan further explained that airbags may fail to deploy if the seat belt brackets are damaged as a result of using child restraint systems. Though the automaker intends to notify the owners of the recalled vehicles so they can receive a free repair, they have not decided how best to repair the problems.
