A boy rom Burnsville was killed Sunday in a Stevens Point car accident, police say.

According to officials with the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, 16 year-old Alexander Maslow was driving his 1999 Toyota Camry, alone, northbound on County Trunk Highway CC in Star Prarie shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday when the crash occurred. Maslow’s vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, became airborne and overturned, crashing into a ditch, police say.

Maslow was wearing his seat belt at the time, but he was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by helicopter to Regions Hospital in St. Paul Sunday, where he was pronounced dead later that day.

Maslow reportedly became lost while driving to a friend’s family cabin. “We don’t know if he was swerving to avoid an animal – if he just missed a curve,” said his mother Kathy Maslow. “It was dark.”
